I’m just dropping in to share my best Air Fryer green bean recipe in case you missed it on Instagram. I prefer to house my recipes in more permanent and easily findable places like my website and here. Going forward I plan to share more recipes via this newsletter.
My friend Nicole from Terra Madre has created a range of seasonings in beautiful tins. The first is her Greek seasoning which is a 50-year-old family recipe. Her father Chris was a butcher in Joburg and created this recipe for his spit roast lamb business. Nicole now makes it with dried oregano from Greece (the best), Atlantic sea salt and various other spices. There are no preservatives, sugar, stabilizers or additives in this product. It’s all-natural and I use it on everything. It’s my main seasoning salt for vegetables.
The tin is so beautiful and makes a lovely gift. It comes in 2 sizes and the small one is perfect because a little goes a long way.
You can order it online but it is also available in numerous stores in Cape Town including Spar Sea Point, Constantia (Alphen) & Hout Bay, Delicious Fish Deli Sea Point, Giovanni’s, The Olive Branch Deli, Willoughby & Co in the V&A and many more locations. Nicole also sells her cold pressed, single cultivar apple & pear juices to many of these stores too and the Oranjezicht Market.
I also have a guide to The Best Food Shops in Cape Town which I try to keep updated as I discover new places.
I love my Air Fryer and have the Instant Vortex Plus Air Fryer with ClearCook & OdourErase.
This is an upgrade from a previous Instant Vortex model which I also loved but this is on another level.
More about it if you are in the market for a new Air Fryer:
The 6-in-1 Instant™ Vortex™ Plus with ClearCook and OdourErase technology is our most advanced and beautifully designed air fryer yet! This model is also the first air fryer with odour removal technology and a ClearCook window to monitor cooking progress with the touch of a button. The stainless steel finish, cooking progress indicator and reduced noise levels round off this next-generation air fryer. Available sizes: 5.7L
Recipe - The Best Air Fryer roasted green beans
Just a note on the best way to stem green beans if you are blanching them. ONLY cut off the stem end. If you cut off both ends, water will run through the beans like a straw depleting them of nutrients & flavour and breaking them apart. If you need to cut them smaller it is better to do it after they have been cooked (in water).
200gms green beans stems removed
1-2 Tbsp olive oil
A generous pinch or 2 of Greek seasoning salt
1 1/2 Tbs nutritional yeast
Black pepper
Parmesan to serve (optional)
Preheat the Air Fryer to 180C/350F.
In a large bowl add your trimmed beans. Toss in the olive oil then season with the Greek seasoning salt, black pepper and nutritional yeast.
Tip it into your Air Fryer basket and roast for 8 minutes, and until just turning golden on the edges.
Sprinkle over freshly grated Parmesan if you feel like it.
Enjoy!
