Hello friends, and welcome back!
I’m starting to feel that uplifting hint of Spring in the air, even though it's not officially here until the 21st. While I watch foodies in the Northern Hemisphere embrace Fall with all those cosy pumpkin spice recipes, this is the first year I’m not feeling a twinge of envy. I’m eagerly anticipating the arrival of stone fruits and summer tomatoes. Plus, I’ve made it back into the sea for a few swims (yay!). I only took a six-week break because, honestly, it was just too cold to even think about it. I’m forever grateful that I live in Cape Town where I can swim here and walk on a mountain minutes after leaving home.
The pic was taken at Camps Bay tidal pool on Sunday.
Recent Recipes
I recently shared two extremely simple but incredibly delicious egg recipes that are better than the sum of their parts. Both are inspired by dishes I ate on my trip to Spain last year. The mushrooms and egg yolk dish makes a fantastic starter and you can toss the yolk in front of your guests.
Pan-fried mushrooms with miso and egg yolk
Pan Con Tomate (Spanish tomato bread) with a fried egg
Fry the egg in brown butter to give it extra flavour. This pairs phenomenally well with the fresh tomato. This was my favourite shoot of the year because eggs are just so photogenic.
Creamy chicken braised in white wine herbs with apples
This delicious and cosy one-pan dinner is packed with so much flavour. A riff on a Chicken Normandy but here chicken braises in white wine instead of cider.
Viral tortilla quiche with cottage cheese and vegetables
I have been making this recipe on repeat for my lunch. It’s loaded with protein and vegetables and can be easily adapted to whatever you have lying around. The tortilla creates a healthier base but you can leave it off if you prefer. It can be made in an Air Fryer for even more ease.
Easy Air Fryer loaf Basque cheesecake
I made the popular Basque cheesecake in a smaller loaf tin which is more practical and economical. It also fits into a large Air Fryer basket.
Blue cheese and prosciutto pizza with caramelised apples
Hovering between savoury and sweet this easy pizza is a delicious lunch or snack with drinks.
A few of my best chicken recipes
After 14 years of blogging, I have a lot of chicken recipes. I rounded up a few of my favourite ones which should be great inspiration for when that pesky question of ‘what should I make for supper tonight?’ crops up.
Wine Time
De Wetshof Estate recently hosted an exclusive lunch at Salon to celebrate their flagship Bataleur Chardonnay, a single-vineyard wine produced only in exceptional vintages. During the event, we tasted several past vintages dating back to 2006, and it was fascinating to note the consistent qualities that have carried through the years. As a versatile food wine, Chardonnay paired beautifully with all six delicious courses crafted by Luke Dale-Roberts for the occasion, and we could sample the full range from De Wetshof.
The wine's name is a tribute to the majestic Bateleur eagle, a species now sadly under threat.
In case you missed it I cracked the code for classic South African buttermilk rusks.
New recipes coming up
I can’t wait to share a delicious new dessert on Friday. I’m also planning Christmas (112 days to go) so do let me know in the comments if there are any festive recipes you would love to see.

Your chicken recipes are the best! If you’re up for a challenge, how about Christmas side dishes/salads that use vegetables that store well and don’t perish fast. If you live in a small town with only two supermarkets and an enormous influx of December visitors, you can’t rely on the usual summer salady ingredients that everyone picks up at Woolies!
I love your photos! they are just wonderful. I love eggs too!
cheers
